A Place For Literary, Poetic, and Artistic Creativity

Hello fellow Substackers, my name is Jacob Allee. I run another Substack by the name of Study The Great Books where I focus on creating study guides for Great Books, writing articles about literature, classical Christian education, the Liberal Arts, and all things related thereunto. The aim of this new Substack will be different and, in some ways, more personal. Here I will be posting pieces of poetry and prose I have written which are of a less academic nature. In short, this Substack is about having fun, being creative, and improving my literary chops.

I have chosen the name “Inklings’ Outpost” in honor of the well-known fellowship of great Christian thinkers and writers which boasted members such as C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield, Charles Williams, Roger Lancelyn Green, and more. I hope not only to share with you about the stories and poetry I am writing, but also to connect with many other authors who have similar interests and passions as myself. I would love to develop a lively community and place of discussion which will be mutually beneficial and help to sharpen us all.

I have a particularly strong affinity for alliterative poetry, such as that which you’d encounter in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, so you can expect to see a fair amount of that. I also have an inkling of an idea for three different stories, one being a murder mystery, one a pure fantasy (with a completely original constructed world), and one more Narnia-like story (where a college student finds a way into a parallel world). I look forward to sharing pieces of my work here, brainstorming together, and all the fun that lies ahead! Feel free to say hello and tell me about your writing projects and interests!
